Quote:
"So what is the big deal with the finding out who the final Cylon is?"

I suppose ultimately, we want to know for the sake of knowing. We also want to know how this final Cylon has effected the story. We want to know how intricately their path has been woven into the events as we know them to be, so that when we finally see them, we'll take very large blunt instruments and beat our foreheads with them, because it was so obvious. Or conversely, we want to know to have an element of completion. A closing of the circle, that can't happen without this knowledge.

Quote:
"I really have to get on the stick and finish this essay, don’t I?"

Yes. Yes, you do.

What's boggling my mind, and which no one has mentioned, is how Saul is a completely different Cylon from the rest. It has been established that Cylons mating with Cylons doesn't work, and yet Saul impregnated Six. Up to this point we've only had hybrid offspring (Niki and Hera), but the product of Saul and Six should be 100% Cylon goodness. Which, now that I'm thinking of it, would probably be the best choice for the final Cylon. Too bad that D'Anna has already established that they aren't with the fleet.

Damn their twisted storylines!

I have a lot of thoughts on the matter, and trust me, it's a lot more than a single sentence.

OK so we identify with the Cylons and the humans. The machines have achieved their goal of being real boys and gilrs. So what is the big deal with the finding out who the final Cylon is? If we can identify with them why does it matter?

Well one question about the final five is how is Saul one of them, seeing as they are from after the last cylon war and it is mentioned that Saul fought in that war with Adama.

I believe that we care for the Final Five so much, because of our feelings toward the Initial Seven. In the first set of Cylons we see, we find in them an epitome of evolution in motion, yet they're still flawed.

For all their advances, it seems their goal has been the android's dream: to be human. At the same time, a concurrent goal appears to be the Tyrell Corp.'s dream: More Human Than Human. It can be said that they've succeeded on both counts. They have Human passion, devotion, compassion, and retribution. And, they aren't afraid to use them.

They feel, they love, they pronounce one god, and we still care about them. We may not necessarily like them, but we care. They're collective lives are as important to us as any of the individuals on Galactica. When we seek the Final Five; however, the Initial Seven are the meterstick that we must measure them against.

Of the Final Five, we've seen four. These four not only aspire to the above dreams, they're living the dreams that the other Cylons seek to one day attain. They ARE human. Mostly...

We do see in them ourselves, as Summer Brooks has said, but it's more than that. We've "lived" with these four. They are Galactica's kin, not children of the resurrection ships. We've seen Galen's son be born, we've struggled with Tori and the pressures of her job, we've been torn apart by the drama that is Sam's married life, and we've crossed beyond the pale with Saul. We've "lived" what they've lived. We know them. They is human: Mo' Human Than, 'n' stuff.

Poor schlubbs.

So, we see them all, and we care for them all, and we do because they are real to us, and they're motivations are compelling and frighteningly human.

I look forward to the Final One showing up. It should be a kick in the head.

I'm looking forward to the unveiling of the 5th Cylon but I'm prepared to be under whelmed. But, you know, the journey is half the point.

I think we are surprise junkies, much like we were when we opened presents at Chistmas. Thankfully that part of us still there and only takes this type of suspense to bring it out.
